A brand new funicular

A fast and comfortable connexion

A fast and convenient public transport link between the valley and the mountains is one of Crans-Montana's main assets. Built in 1911 and renovated for the first time in 1997, Europe's longest funicular railway was given a brand-new look this summer.

Since 7 March 2022, a construction site on an epic scale has been set up on the 4.2 km long line which gains 1,000 m of height, running through the Noble-Contrée district: deconstruction and reconstruction of all the rails, replacement and renovation of numerous bridges, covering of the Bluche and Venthône platforms, redevelopment of the Sierre and Montana stations, installation of an energy recovery and storage system... all these improvements will increase the comfort of those using the funicular.

When it reopens on 11 December 2022, the funicular will offer increased frequency, with trips every 20 minutes until the evening, a reduction in noise levels, more stable carriages, compliance with regulations for people with reduced mobility and zero carbon emission!

So access to Crans-Montana by public transport will be greatly facilitated, since connections with the train services will be assured in both directions, and the journey time between Sierre and Montana will remain under 15 minutes.

2025 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has awarded the organisation of the 2025 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships to Valais, and will be bringing all events together in the same region for the first time ever. It is an honour for Crans-Montana to be one of the 8 host destinations, and to host the cross-country event. The entire Crans-Montana area is covered with a wide range of infrastructure dedicated to mountain bikers of all levels:

    • 177km of certified and signposted enduro and cross-country tracks for all levels
    • 11 routes with a total vertical height difference of 2,350m
    • 3 downhill tracks
    • Unlimited mountain access, with the ski lifts open 365 days a year

This is a major international event that positions Crans-Montana as the ultimate bike destination.

New accommodation projects

The offer is increasing

The hotel industry plays an important role in the development of tourism, and Crans-Montana is pleased to announce the opening and construction/renovation of several new hotels.

Six Senses

Six Senses Crans-Montana ***** is the first resort and residence project in Switzerland for Six Senses Hotels, Resorts & Spas, right at the foot of Crans-Montana’s ski area. Its 28,000m2 area make it one of the largest construction sites in the Alps. The complex is planned to open for the 22/23 winter season, and includes 47 suites, 17 residences, a 2,000m2 spa, two restaurants, a bar and a magnificent terrace with breathtaking views.

Hôtel Rhodania

The luxurious Rhodania Hotel will join The Unbound Collection by Hyatt in 2023. Conveniently located just a short walk from the centre, on the third tee of the famous Severiano Ballesteros golf course, where the Omega European Masters takes place every year, it will offer superior high-end service. The 41 rooms will feature elegant and luxurious décor, and the dining outlets will offer high quality local produce and regional cuisine.

Faern Valaisia

The long-established Hotel Valaisia in the heart of Crans-Montana is getting a makeover, and will be back with a more alpine, refined and warm style. A total of 134 completely renovated rooms will create a place where the guest experience is central, awakening everyone’s senses thanks to a wellness and fitness area, a restaurant using local ingredients, a bar with customised cocktails and film evenings. Several family rooms and children’s play areas will also delight the youngest guests. With an opening date of 17 December 2022, there is no doubt that the Faern Crans-Montana Valaisia will delight all mountain lovers.

A new look for the website

The website of Crans-Montana Tourism & Congress, a central and indispensable tool in Crans-Montana's communication, is currently undergoing a complete makeover and will be cleaner and more ergonomic than ever. User experience is at the centre of all considerations, as the 10,000 pages of the site, translated into 4 languages, are reviewed, updated and optimised.

As a result, the site will be easier to read, more intuitive and also more interactive and customisable. The information is restructured and will be available for display in the form of a map and filtered on several levels. The structure is also beeing revised to enable customers to easily find what they are looking for. All this without neglecting the design, which allows the site to become a real inspiring showcase. Obviously the site will meet the latest web development standards and will be available in a responsive mobile version.

The launch is planned before winter, so you will have the opportunity to discover the whole range of winter offers on the new version of the Crans-Montana Tourism & Congress website.

FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2027

That’s it!  Forty years after 1987, Crans-Montana is once again the epicentre of world skiing. The International Ski Federation (FIS) council awarded the organisation of the 2027 World Championships to Crans-Montana on Wednesday 25 May 2022. The world's best skiers will once again compete on the Haut-Plateau - 40 years after the memorable celebration of skiing in 1987. Thanks to a strong bid and excellent teamwork between the Bid Committee, the political authorities, the ski lifts company and Swiss-Ski, Crans-Montana was rewarded in Milan. The Valais resort prevailed in the 1st ballot with a majority of 11 votes.

One of the key points of the bid is the complete transformation of the finish stadium area, which will be remodelled and refurbished into a semi-permanent and multifunctional arena, with modern infrastructure for athletes, media, sponsors and the public, as well as an underground car park designed for TV trucks and team vehicles, and also a whole area with tourist infrastructure. This transformation, as well as all the other elements of the bid, is very much in line with sustainability principles. In fact every effort is being made to allow a harmonious development of resources, and to facilitate use for future generations.
