SPORT - GET INTO THE SWINGS OF THINGS
Here, sports fans will discover an idyllic setting and first-class amenities. Besides the four golf courses which make Crans-Montana a world-famous destination for golfing aficionados, there are many other summer sports that will appeal even to the sportiest of visitors. It’s fun all the way up, whether it’s hiking or biking on the trails, wakeboarding on the lake or paragliding. Later in the year, at the first signs of snow, the winter sports take over with 140km of ski runs, snowshoeing and ski mountaineering, numerous cross-country ski runs, a large skating rink and one of the most beautiful snow parks in Switzerland. Crans-Montana is sheer paradise for sports lovers throughout the year.
A ski area of more than 140 km
Quality facilities and slopes for all levels
The Crans-Montana ski area has some 140km of pistes, and 24 modern ski lifts. From the Plaine Morte at 3,000m down to the resort at 1,500m, set off to explore a wide variety of pistes, also with different levels, and with views to take your breath away. In fact just opposite, you’ll find a crown of summits that are over 4,000m high. Enjoy this view on one of 15 sunny mountain terraces, where you can savour delicious traditional dishes. Freestyle fans will find one of the best snowparks in Switzerland, with an Olympic-size Halfpipe.
You’ll find children learning to ski at Arnouva, where a brand new covered magic carpet, a ski kindergarten and a restaurant will make their first experience an unforgettable memory, in addition, access by cable car from the centre of Montana is free. At the end of the day, you have to stop at the Cry d'Er Club on the pistes, or call into one of the après-ski bars at the departure point of one of the 3 cable cars in the resort, where a great atmosphere is guaranteed.
A veritable shrine to action sports
Crans-Montana is already well-known for its parks (snowpark, bikepark and wakepark), but it is continually developing the choice for action sport fans. The latest development is Chalet Alaïa, a veritable shrine to action sports, which opened its doors at the beginning of 2019. High quality infrastructure such as trampolines, indoor ramps, foam pits and bowls mean different sports can be practised year round. Outside, there is a gigantic skatepark which measures around 2,400m2, consisting of a snakerun, and pumptrack, as well as a skate plaza and bowl.
Keen children and young people can take part in winter and summer camps, and put into practice the tricks they learn at the Chalet in the different parks in Crans-Montana. With over 5,000 m2 of indoor and outdoor infrastructure, French-speaking Switzerland now boasts the biggest and most complete action sports centre of its kind. Upstairs, there’s a bar which looks out over the activity halls so that family and friends can watch sports fans evolve in their chosen sport.
Ice sports in the spotlight
The Ycoor Ice Rink, ideally located in the centre of Montana near restaurants and shops, offers skaters a wonderful outdoor ice rink that is over 2,400m2, with a 3 lane indoor curling hall.
Plenty of activities and entertainment is organised all winter long, such as white nights at the ice rink, evenings where you can get down and dance in a different ambiance, decor and music each time. Two evenings will be set aside for Carnival, don’t forget to dress up !
An oasis of sports
The Crans-Montana Climbing Wall is located in the Moubra tennis centre. It has a 500m2 wall and a 150m2 boulder area. Routes lead up to a height of 13.5 metres, from 4C to 8A, there are almost sixty different routes on the climbing wall and around forty routes in the boulder area.
Rando Parc - Ski Touring
15 Ski Touring routes, 40km, 8000m H+
This winter, Crans-Montana is offering 15 ski touring routes (blue, red and black) with over 40 km of marked and secure paths. Unique in the world, the routes in this gigantic park offer over 8,000 metres of height gain. Suitable both for beginners and the more advanced, it includes three introductory level routes, as well as a route called «La X’trême» with a height gain of 3,000m and four uphills. These ski mountaineering routes have been created in collaboration with Séverine Pont-Combe, ski-mountaineering champion.
We recommend using this network of routes to start the practice safely and without having to think about the route. We have also planned free introductions, supervised by professionals, every Sunday of the season as part of Grandeur Nature's program of activities
The Crans-Montana Snowpark
A playground endorsed by the best freestylers
The Crans-Montana Snowpark, a playground endorsed by the best freestylers. For over 15 years, the Crans-Montana Snowpark has welcomed the best Swiss and international riders on its 100'000 m2 snowpark which, spread over 2 sites, also offers modules for beginners. The main snowpark is aimed at confirmed and expert freestylers and consists of rails and boxes, jumps, an airbag and, above all, the single olympic half-pipe in French Switzerland with 7m-high walls.
The only one of its kind in Valais, the half-pipe is frequented by countless serious riders as they prepare for various competitions. The second zone, the Easy Snowpark, situated close to Chetzeron, is dedicated to novice freestyle skiers and snowboarders.
Discover more than 16 km of trails
Cross-country skiing is an important activity in Crans-Montana. Nearly 16 kilometres are available to sports enthusiasts, as well as the track on the Plaine Morte, at 3'000 meters altitude. Discover the magnificent setting that golfers enjoy in Summer, by cross-country skiing. Quiet and close to nature, these itineraries offer you a beautiful view of the alps. A cross-country ski trail at 3000 meters altitude!
This splendid route will allow you to admire a magnificent landscape with a view on the most beautiful peaks of the Alps. Two itineraries of 3 and 5 km are at your disposal. The cross-country tracks are regulary made in order to guarantee the quality of the routes.
